Warriors run record to 4-1
The Socorro Warrior soccer team handed visiting Grants a 10-1 loss Saturday at the Socorro Sports Complex. Coach Dennis Walsh said it was a “Very good tactical game from our boys! I was able to play my 8th grade goalie, Javi Acosta, in the second half, and he did very well. Also, because of the great spatial awareness of our midfielders, I was able to play our speedy 8th grader Skyler Bunning early on, and he stepped up with one goal and a beautiful assist to Kol Fuierer! The boys concentrated upon spreading out, staying in position and making quick, simple passes this past week in practice, and the hard work they put in really showed against Grants. We were able to move Elijah Molina into the starting midfield group, which allowed us to push Hondro Jaramillo up top with starting forwards Mike Armijo and Devan Webb. Those combinations proved deadly time and time again, with all three forwards scoring throughout the game.”
It was 6-0 at halftime, and because of the constant pressure from Socorro, the Warriors had about 90% possession throughout the contest. Coach Walsh was able to rest quite a few starters in the second half, saving some much needed energy for this upcoming week (Tuesday Varsity and JV at Bernalillo, Thursday Varsity and JV home against Santa Fe Prep, Saturday Varsity and JV at Robertson). The Warriors are now 4-1 on the season.
Here’s the scoring summary:
Mike Armijo: 2 goals, 2 assists; Devan Webb: 2 goals; Hondro Jaramillo: 1 goal, 1 assist; Kol Fuierer: 2 goals, 2 assists; Ryan Botko: 2 goals, 3 assists; Andres Vargas: 1 assist; Skyler Bunning: 1 goal, 1 assist; Ben Oxford: 1 save; Javi Acosta: 2 saves
