ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico will not retain Lobo softball coach Erica Beach for the 2018 season, Associate Athletic Director Ed Manzanares announced Sunday.
“At this time, we have decided to not renew the contract for Erica Beach,” said Manzanares. “We appreciate the efforts of Erica and her staffs over the past seven seasons with our softball program. We will conduct a national search, and with our facilities, our community, and our commitment to developing a championship softball program, we are confident that we can hire a coach that can lead our program to a more competitive level in the Mountain West.”
Beach compiled a 155-204 record during her seven seasons as head coach of the Lobos. The Lobos finished with a 20-30 overall record in 2017 and ninth among the Mountain West with a 6-18 record. Beach had her best season in 2015, finishing 29-25 on the year and fourth in the Mountain West with a 13-11 record.
In her second season, the Lobos were ranked in the top 25 in the nation after starting off the season with a 9-0 record and big wins against nationally ranked Oregon and Texas A&M.
Over the course of her seven years, she has coached five NFCA All-Region selections and eight All-Mountain West honorees. Five times her student-athletes have been named MW Pitcher of the Week and 13 times MW Player of the Week. She also brought the program to a high level in the classroom with three NFCA All-America Scholar athletes, two CoSIDA Academic All-District selections and 64 MW Academic All-Conference honorees.
